Let's see here...
Quote:
1Pe 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
1Pe 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation [coupled] with fear.
1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
1Pe 3:4 But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Alright lets put it to the test here...
Whose adorning let it not be...
outward adorning of plaiting the hair... God doesn't want women to plait their hair? We will assume, for the moment, that this is what he is saying.
wearing of gold... God doesn't want women to wear gold? We will assume, for the moment, that this is what he is saying.
putting on of apparel... God doesn't want women to put on apparel?
Wow... what an interesting form of holiness huh?
It doesn't appear that it is a strict and absolute prohibition but an admonition to understanding that our adorning... the part of us that would catch another's attention... shouldn't be how we primp ourselves up but, instead should be an excellent spirit.
If it were a strict prohibition then we find all women commanded to remain naked at all times so that they can be holy.
