Right. It's a very common practice for designers and jewelers to loan out dresses and accessories to celebrities and political figures.
The articles I read stated an estimate of what the items were worth. Not necessarily what CM spent on them, or what they actually cost.
Abigail,
I have searched everywhere trying to find out if the clothes and jewels were on loan. Have you run across anything? Not that it matters. I just want to know!!!!

No, I can't find anything that says one way or the other. But even if it was HER dress, chances are it was a gift from the designer, if not a loan. Designers get a lot of good press from having their clothing worn by public figures.
Anyway, the first post presented the facts inaccurately. The dress was not the expensive part. It was the jewelry.
And I read elsewhere that Michelle Obama's purple sheath dress (not worn at the convention) was $1500, which is only about half of the value of CM's dress.

Yes, the designers do get good coverage. I'm with Ferd, I hope she bought them. This socialist mentality has been around long enough.
I'm Sure everyone has heard about cindy McCains dress she wore to the convention. if not it was an outfit that totaled $317,100 ......Iknow but now I'm thinking I cant vote for McCain no one who could spend that much money on a dress would be able to know what a bad economy could mean for lower to middle class people . I also would wonder about thier ablility to manage the nations budget?I mean Ive always had the attitude that if you can earn enough to be extravegant then do it...but that is just stupid I dont care how much money you have ...or am I just a poor county boy who dosent get?
Let's see.....
I'm thinking I can't vote for Obama. No one who could sit in a pew for 20 years and listen to the hate filled diatribes of Jeremiah Wright and allow his daughters listen to such sermons and at first say, "I could not disown him any more than I could disown my own grandfather" then conveniently throw him under the bis a few weeks later for political expedience would be able to win my trust.
Voting for a rich American hero versus a rich Ivy League liberal politician is a no brainer for me. If this is all the Obama supporters can come up with as logic against McCain and a reason to vote Obama, they are going to loe in a landslide
NEWS to the CLASS WARRIORS: ALL POLITICIANS ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL ARE RICH! These are the facts of life.

Frankly, I don't care one way or the other. My husband bought me a suit for Mother's day that was around $___.00 (Okay, a good chunk of change.)
1. It was only about 1/4 - 1/2 what a MAN pays for a good, tailored suit, and you do get what you pay for, and,
2. I'm sure if we compared incomes, he probably spent a greater percentage of our income than Cindy McCain spent of hers. Now, I'm a frugal shopper, and I don't normally spend money like that on myself, AND I only buy new clothes a couple of times a year, BUT the point is,
3. It's no one's business how we spend our money. Except God's, that is.
I really don't get the fascination with other folks' finances, either. As long as folks are charitable, and are good stewards, WHO CARES???????????????????

The information is actually posted at Vanity Fair and Laura Bush's dress cost more. LOL!
Viva La American Capitalism
Are you saying Laura Bush's dress was 300K? If not her, who had a dress for that amount. I can not imagine any dress being 300,000. That is more than a home.

No one'sdress cost $300,000.00. Not Cindy's, not Laura's, and not Michelle Obama's.
