Are you having a hard time typing with both feet stuck in your mouth today?
Mine was a statement you could only safely make in the cyber world!
If I made that statement in person at an old time Pentecocstal meeting of some kind I would likely find myself hunted down and sat on by some of those very same "wide" women!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I hear the old time pentecost was the reason wal-mart put sliding doors in their stores. Store traffic picked up 75%.
I see you too are glad that we are in cyber world!
(BTW - I can talk about folks being fat because I are one!!!!!*)

I was just quoting it because it is used differently by different people.
Baptists often (mis)quote it as "by the washing of the water of the Word." They teach that just as the laver in the Tabernacle was made of mirrors, and mirrors are symbolic of the Scriptures (ref 1 Cor 13:12 and James 1:23-25), the Word washes/cleanses us from sin when we are born again. They also use John 15:3 to corroborate that. There may be some Apostlolics who believe this way also.
In my opinion, when Jesus mentioned the birth of water He was referring to our first birth. Nicodemus had asked how an adult could be born again (or born anew or born from above). Jesus explained that there are two births. The first is a birth of water when we leave the human womb. The second is a birth of the Spirit. The first birth affects our body. The second birth affects our spirit. The first birth is from below. The second birth is from above. The first birth is from a human mother. The second birth is from a Heavenly Father. After contrasting the two births, Jesus went on and said, "marvel not that I said unto you that you must be born again." Then in verse 11 Jesus states that He knows what He is talking about because He and His disciples have seen folks born again and they know folks who are born again. Then in versese 14-21 Jesus explains that the new birth happens when a person believes in Him.

That's how I see it also.

I am continually appalled at how supposedly conservative "literalists" are so willing to freely allegorize and spiritualize scripture in such willy nilly fashion. This is the hermeneutics of the so-called "liberal theologians' they love to bash so often. {scratching my head}
And some people think that the OT was NOT written for our, as in the NT, learning and have no idea that some things written in the OT were written for us in the NT.

Also 2Cor.11:4,
"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not
preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received,
or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with
him. 1John 4:1,

are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Amen elder.
Apparently according to scripture, it is possible for people, even apostolics, to receive "another spirit". I wonder if that "other spirit" would cause them to forsake their spiritual heritage or cause them to remain where God planted them and make them strong? I wonder if it would cause them to fight against those they once agreed with? Apparently some departed from the faith and started their own new thing after their own LUSTS.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
They that are Christ's, that belong to Him, are those who DENY themselves and take up their cross DAILY and do NOT walk around thinking they can stay saved while fulfilling the lusts of the flesh and eyes. If they continued to do that in a strong apostolic church, they would spend A LOT of time REPENTING; and if they didn't really change, then evenutally they would get sick and tired and leave and get their own teachers.
Some use liberty for an occasion to their flesh. I wonder how long one would last in a strong apostolic church trying to continue in that? Eventually they would leave and/or God would get rid of them.
One time someone came to Jesus and wanted to know what he should do to have eternal life. Jesus knew he had a problem with something and so required something of him that he wasn't willing to give up. Imagine that, someone in authority requiring something of you that you are unwilling to give up for him. So they go away sorrowful.
Makes me wonder if there are some in here that someone required something of them that they were UNWILLING to give up and ended up going away sorrowful. Perhaps until someone lied to them and said that they didn't really have to give it up.
Interesting stuff.
