Do you have "The Revelation"?

25 years ago when I converted to Pentecostalism it was very common to hear people say "he got the revelation of one God".

Often it was even added to the events of conversion... "he received the revlation of one God while driving his car, and was baptised in Jesus Name the next night. It was a specific and distinct occurance and added to the three Acts 2:38 steps - sort of like some others added "sanctification" in the past.

The accompanying teaching was that God opens the understanding and the revelation could not be received through study and intellect alone.

Do you remember this teaching?

Is it still taught some places?

I heard it taught til about 10 years ago, but not as salvific. I haven't heard it preached for years but do still hear it referred to ocassionally in some circles.

Same here - and I did not mean it was always taught as salvific, just that it was a distinct occurance even like repentance and baptism are separate things. Sometimes it was sort of a simultaneous thing too... he was baptised and got the revelation of one God "right there in the water".

While not salvific it was seen as adding credibility to one's experience.

In similar fashion if one spoke in tongues for a long time (like hours or days verses a few minutes), he was said to have really gotten a "good dose of the Holy Ghost", and revered as super spiritual.

Yes, I hear it all the time.

Heard the "good dose", too.

Re: Do you have "The Revelation"?

Do you feel something is wrong with that saying? Its seems perfectly scriptural to me.

22: All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. Luke 10:22

Yeshua said the only way you could know who the Father is comes by the revelation of the Son.

16: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Tim. 3:16

The word mystery in Greek means "hidden truth". If its hidden then it takes revelation to understand.

I think when many first see it they DO get excited about it. As years go by they begin to get a "ho hum" attitude about it.

Re: Do you have "The Revelation"?

I do remember as a new convert 40 years ago, it seemed one God preaching was, next to clothsline preaching, was all I heard.

I do remember sitting in my car at the "Whataburger" in Pensacola, FL. reading my bible and studying all the many scripture references I had had compiled and I distinctly remember seeing what they had been talking about.

Re: Do you have "The Revelation"?

Funny, in 50 years in the AG, I can't recall ever hearing about "the revelation of three Gods".

Some come to a knowledge of truth through study others through revelation. Does it really matter?

Without the revelation of Jesus no one will see it. Some Trins and Arians have studied a great deal and still dont get it.

Re: Do you have "The Revelation"?

And some of us were taught it from birth so there was no revelation or study. It's all we've ever known.
