Christian is a pagan term for followers of Christ. If I have to tell someone I am a Christian, than I'm not a Christian. You know an apple tree by the fruit it bears. THe ulitimate compliment is " You must be a Chistian". They ultimate response should be "What gave it away">

It has been established by more than one credible source an apostolic label tests poorly in focus groups.

The word pentecostal is an overused word that loses it's special meaning.

My comment to people who try to pigeon-hole my religious affiliation is to say, I"m whatever Jesus is.

The part of your post I highlighted is proof that if you read AFF long enough you can find anything under the sun asserted here.

Let's see now. Back in Jesus' day he had followers. The followers of Christ were called Christians. Now because they were called that by some who were unbelievers (along with believers) now you think Christian is a pagan term?

Good grief!!!! By that logic if a pagan calls apple pie "apple pie" suddenly apple pie becomes a pagan term?

I prefer Pentecostal.

And I know you all care deeply about my preferences.
I was thinking about this, again, the other day.

Did we pick up the title "Apostolic" to distinguish ourselves from Trintarians?

I had never heard the word Apostolic until I enrolled at Gateway.

I personally started calling myself Apostolic about a dozen years ago because everybody in Dallas is some form of pentecostal.

I dont know why others did. the pentecostals here were represented by some pretty shady TV preachers in the area like Robert Tilton.

I don't evn think most of the folks in my church have ever even heard the word "Apostolic." lol

What, exactly, is "Apostolic" supposed to mean that is so preferable over "Pentecostal?"

I prefer being called a Christian since it was first issued in Antioch, and Pentecost was just an experience.

What's wrong with being Christian? When did being Pentecostal or Apostolic become so important? Color me grouchy, but I don't even think most of the world know what 'Apostolic" or "Pentecostal" means. Pretty much everyone understands that Christianity implies an experience.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I think many know what "Pentecostal" means, but think "Apostolic" is Catholic!
