Gotta have a balance bro... but surely charity was prized above all the 'supernatural' gifts of the Spirit by Paul, wasn't it?

And there are others who treat their card as if were an entrance to an elite country club and like to sit at the preacher's tables rather than dine at the tables where the congregants sit....go to summer camps to see this phenomenon in action.....

There is at least two of us who don't go ga-ga over the word apostolic.

I've been saying this for months....

I prefer Pentecostal.

And I know you all care deeply about my preferences.

Apostolicos .. or Apostolics were the Apostolic Assembly based in Mexico and California ... those whose women wear the veils.
My tios helped bring that org into greater things. I was born into this but we left when I was very young. Most of my family(cousins) still attends.
It was into this group that my mom got saved and brought the rest of the familia. Many have rebelled and don't wear the veil, hehe

I think the birth of the Charismatic movement being called by media as "Pentecostal" began to make pastors wary of the term Pentecostal since it was being used so widely as to include Catholics praying to Mary yet claiming to speak in tongues and so forth. Thus Apostolic that not only includes the experience of Pentecost but also the message of the Apostles. Just my thoughts.

However at the merger one of the main churches sponsering was Harry Branding's church which was Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Not a new term at all. I been in the church for over 31 years and around the church all my life over 48 years.

There have always been churches that went by Apostolic.
The Apostolic church of Beaumont has gone by that name as long as I can remember. There have been many amount that were First Apostolic, Apostolic Tab. and so on.

Not new at all

I prefer Apostolic because everything and their dog goes by Pentecostal. I prefer not to be put in the same group and the loosey goosey libs.

Monkey,

My dad and mom started their walk w/ the Apostolic Assembly. A minister by the name of Robert Martinez was sent to New York to start a church in Manhattan, in the early 70x. My parents former heroin addicts, came to the Lord, in 1972. Mom wore the veil from 72-74 and gave it up when they moved to a UPCI church pastored by Steven Barley, in the Bronx in '74.

We fellowshipped w/ the Apostolics in New York for many years. Some of the men sitting on the UPCI Spanish Ministries Committee board are former Apostolic Assembly.

Your take on this here is what my understanding of the usage was.

When I was growing up UPC generally (there were exceptions) the churches that called themselves "Apostolic" vs. "Pentecostal" were more ultra con. Hardcored like you. Holier than thou like you!

I assume a "loosey goosey lib" would be someone with short sleeves or a slit in their long blue jean skirt so they don't have to walk like a penguin or someone mentally challenged?
