And I know you all care deeply about my preferences.
Where I came from we were "Pentecostal". The "apostolics" were a small group of Pentecostals in our region who wore hats were ultra conservative and didn't fellowship with the rest of us "Pentecostals" (UPCI) for the most part because we were considered worldly. For that reason we avoided and never used "apostolic" to define ourselves.

I think that how you're labeled often depends on geographical and regional location. It certainly was/is that way where I come from.

New????????????????????????????????

Bishop Haywood's church was Christ Temple Apostolic Assembly?

Bishop Lawson's church was The Church of our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic faith?

Bishop Johnson's Church was The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith?

All these were formed in the late teens or early twenties.

Both Parham and Seymour's works were called Apostolic Faith??? Not that I am saying they were but they were called that.

Where I'm living now........ we are considered "apostolic" (ACOP - Apostolc Church of Pentecost) but would be regarded as very liberal by the regional "Pentecostals" (UPCI). Interesting, isn't it?

But, like Felicity said, this was not the norm in UPC.

I agree ... the focus was on Pentecost ... even phrases ingrained in the culture valued this term more than Apostolic ...

example: He's one of the best preachers in Pentecost

Among the Hispanics we preferred Pentecostales del Nombre ... Pentecostals of the Name ....

Apostolicos .. or Apostolics were the Apostolic Assembly based in Mexico and California ... those whose women wear the veils.

I know the area I was raised in (Western Kentucky) we were called either Pentecostal or Holiness churches. However the odd thing is the UPC at Dawson Springs was called Apostolic as a boy I thought it had to do with the organization. We were independent and knew they were organized. But now in that country many churches are known as Apostolic.

The first time I hear the word "Apostolic" was when Lance Appleton came to our church and sang "I'm-a-one-God-Apostolic-tongue-talkin-Heaven-bound-believer-in-Jesus'-name"

I was twelve.

Actually, my little UPC church in Illinois was called Full Gospel Apostolic, but for some reason, we never thought to refer to ourselves that way. We were just Pentecostal if anyone asked. I didn't even know what Apostolic meant!

Correction:

I'm a one God apostolic, tongue-talking, holy-rolling, born again, heaven-bound believer in the liberating power of Jesus Name...I've been washed in the blood, sanctified by the Spirit, I believe in holiness and I suggest for you to do the same....I was set free on a pentecostal alter on my knees, would you pardon me if I am not ashamed to be a one-God, apostolic.....

The UPC definitely promotes the term Pentecostal over Apostolic.
