This is a neat forum. We have quite a diverse group here. I think it is a pretty good picture of the diversity in the body of Christ. We have some pretty conservative brethren like Coonskinner and Eld. Epley and some who are not quite as conservative like Dan. Some might even consider him to be liberal. To me it seems that he has a great love for the Word and does not just want to accept something as "unquestionable truth" or "papal dogma" just because it has been taught by some in the past. Like those in Berea many years ago he examines the Scriptures to verify truth. As a result, some times he sees things differently than some of the others. Like a group set out to try to do many years ago I think we should endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith (I don't think that will happen until the Rapture), at the same time admonishing all brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body.

There they can find plenty of fault.
I haven't read this thread but the Bible says Elisabeth was FILLED with the Holy Ghost and John was filled from his mother's womb.
Quote:
and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Now you're either filled or you aren't. And it's either the Spirit or it isn't. There's only 1 Spirit but different operations of the Spirit.
She didn't speak in tongues because that enduement of power (Holy Ghost baptism) was for a different purpose. Anointing, giftings, power for ministry, authority .... those things all come with the Holy Ghost baptism which she may well have received after the Day of Pentecost.

Very interesting. I like how you put it.

There are examples of people being filled with the Holy Ghost in a different way than what is taught, that is, speaking in tongues.
Can you give me the different examples?
I guess I am missing it. What I find is that the 3 times a sign is given with the Holy Ghost baptism, tongues is the sign. The baptisms where a method is given, it's in the name of Jesus Christ. But, there are times where people are filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized where nothing else is mentioned.

Ignorance of the Identity of the One True God is not a valid reason to practice idolatry.
1. Whatever was not available because Jesus had not yet been glorified WAS NOT received by Elizabeth, John the baptiser or any prophet of the OT.
2. The harvest FOLLOWS the First Fruits (green ears?) --basic husbandry!
3. Jesus plainly stated that the least in the Kingdom of God was greater than the greatest prophet born of a woman.
Let's not lose sight of the plainness of these witnesses.
Sam, did you speak in tongues when you received the gift of the Holy Ghost?
Sam, do you have an understanding that you would share concerning how God uses tongues to bless us?
