TB ... How many sounds ... and when?
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
5Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.

Daniel,
My only problem with the above is that everyone that says, "you don't have to speak in tongues", in fact, all do speak in tongues.
Therefore, that has never made any sense to me.

We have a witness in ICo 14:22 that tongues were given as sign for those who believe NOT.

The sound Jesus spoke ... is God's Spirit ... in your theology ... it is the sound of tongues
and you claim tongues is for the unbeliever .... yet in practice .... altar workers and God demand to hear it for salvation .... righhhhhhhhhhhtttttttttt.....

Acts 2 cannot support a "Heavenly Language" It can support that the gift of tongues was vital at this particular time. The supernatural ability to speak in other languages was necessary to evangelize the world. The apostolic mission.
JUST ASKING HERE.... but in Cornelius' household they spoke WITH tongues and were magnifying God. Is this 2 different things? And is WITH tongues the same thing as OTHER tongues (acts 2)
Did the Greek interpreters see a difference?

Is it worth mentioning that in early versions of the New Testment everthing after Mark 16:8 is absent?

D.A.
I have come to fully accept that you will lead little ones in the way of your views no matter what it may deprive them of. Then you will use your skills at verbal sniping in attempt to bring everything back to some man-centered, salvation by works spin.
Have at it, D.A.
If God's spirit is giving you space to make your views public, I am perfectly OK with offering no direct dissent to what I view as your "man-centric" babble.

If we use Mark 16:17to support the notion of tongues is for all believers then there are a few other things in the passage that must also be present.
Immunity to poisens and the ability to heal the sick. I have never witnessed either. But I don't get out much.
Maybe Jesus was only talking to his disciples.
