NAYC: Friday Morn Stepping - kdc

So a superb Stepping Team from Tampa opened the "Jump Start" session today. They had some great chants and steps. Plus, they're sponsoring a Skate Night in Tampa during General Conference! Visit their web site!

Overheard, as a youth & female youth leader passed a screen in the hallway.

Youth: "Look! That's called stepping."
Youth Leader: "No. That's not stepping, that's dancing."

Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Though stepping may be performed by an individual, it is generally performed by groups of three or more, often in arrangements that resemble military formations.

from my understanding, numerous AOG churches have "dance" or "step" teams....

How is this an affective ministry? I've seen black fraternities and soroties do this never thought It would be happening in the upc realms. My Lord help us

We had one from a PAW church that came to one of our Saturday youth programs a couple years ago. They were not that good.

BUT choreegraphed dance steps is closer to dancing before the Lord than what we call shockamooo is.

The ancient hebrews danced (to the music) in their times of assebly and worship, in a way many of us would condemn.

I have an Aunt and Uncle who are affiliated with AOG and my Aunt is a part of their praise team. From what I gather, they learn dance moves and perform them as part of praise and worship during church. I don't know if I really like the idea...

As an apostolic youth I pray that this stuff never enters into our ring of fellowship. Dancing in the Spirit of God and praising Him whole heartedly is good enough for me.
