A Better Resurrection
Heb 11:34-35 KJV Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. (35) Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
There will be those in the resurrection who will have a better reward and more honour due to having served God and not requiring deliverance, and even refusing it. They say at the end of the world war, the king of England watched a a parade of soldiers came home and marched after the victory. When the soldiers who were maimed and crippled by war were pushed on stretchers down the concourse, the king himself STOOD TO HIS FEET AND HONOURED THEM, for they had given more than most. A better welcome home.
This is what it will be like for those who have a better resurrection. They did not need deliverance to continue to serve God. Meanwhile, unless some prayers get answered for some people they will stop serving God.
I was thinking about that when this verse came to mind:
Rom 6:13 KJV Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
We are spiritually alive from the dead since we were saved. And we are told to come before God in that frame of understanding. It honours God in acknowledging what He did for us through the cross in having us spiritually risen with Christ in the here and now.
And since we have this kind of spiritual resurrection life right now, there is an application of the verse in Hebrews with this present resurrection.
Some believers really enjoy resurrection life as they daily yield to God as people who are alive from the dead right now. They know their baptisms into Christ's death caused them to likewise resurrect with Him to enable them to yield themselves to God like that. They know they're freed from sin since he that is dead is freed from sin (Ro 6:7). They know they died with Christ to be able to immediately claim they're also risen with him NOW. That's the newness of life we read about in verses 4 and 5.
They so are aware of that oldness having passed away, and everything about them that hindered God was buried, and they're resurrected from that mess, that they have strong faith in their current positions with God. Meanwhile, some believers never learned any of that. They do not think of themselves as alive from the dead, let alone yield themselves to God with such an understanding of themselves.
To really enjoy resurrection life in the SPIRIT NOW, in the salvation sense, is to enjoy the fact that you have His righteousness, and are new creatures, and are seated with Him in heavenly places over sin, the world, the devil and sickness and our own flesh. And we can easily believe God for answers to prayer, since that understanding of our position so powerfully affects what we live like and pray for.
Such people enjoy a good resurrection life now in simply being saved, knowing the differences the cross made in their lives.. They pray for obstacles to be removed and have faith to see God do it!
But to have a BETTER "spiritual" RESURRECTION NOW, is possible, too! It's when we do not need prayers answered for us to continue serving God faithfully! Some people cannot continue unless certain struggles are ended by God. In fact, God understands and 1 Cor 10:13 says He does not allow what we cannot take to come upon us. So, whatever we're going through, God knew we could take it or He would not have allowed it to happen! But God sees those who are so strong in their faith that they pray for needs to be met, but He knows even if He does not answer them the way they want, they'll keep on serving Him anyway!
Shadrach, Meschech and Abednego said God was able to deliver them from the fire, but even if He didn't they'd still not bow to the king's idol.
WOW.
Job said even if God slew him he'd still trust God and not flinch in his commitment whatsoever!
I Want my faith to grow so that I have a better CURRENT resurrection RIGHT NOW! Yes the resurrection of the body is coming. That's what Hebrews spoke of. but I can see how that can be applied right now in my resurrection with Christ. Such a better experience of resurrection with Christ that I do not need deliverance to remain committed.
Have mercy, God! Woohoo!

Re: A Better Resurrection
Awesome! I've learned that it is in my greatest difficulties, and times of struggle that I find the power and presence of the Lord most able to meet the deepest needs I have. The greatest resurrection power available to us comes to us in the most difficult circumstances we face.

Yes. Out of weakness we are made strong!

Re: A Better Resurrection
And because God planned for man to rule the earth forever, but man fell from it and death overcame our bodies. So it is needed for full redemption.

Re: A Better Resurrection
Thanks for sharing this Bro. Blume! I've been contemplating that scripture lately, wondering what a "better resurrection" would be. It seems we miss the resurrection power we have now by only focusing on a future event. There is also a mention of a "better country"!
