Here is a link to a new article about a Baptist pastor who refused to give communion to church goers who would not promise to give their federal income tax refund checks to the church!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Too bad I'm not in Houston. I'm looking for a new church. /tic

I kinda feel sorry for the pastor. Maybe he is in a little too much debt... ya never know. It doesn't excuse what he did but I still think he may deserve some compassion.

I think he's frustrated that more aren't contributing, still kind of wrong.

Re: Pastor Denies Communion To Church Goers
He said that only four or five people in the church are giving and the rest that are not giving are "devils"!!!!! I am assuming that is not going to motivate them to give.

When a pastor exercises that much control, it's time to move. He has not a single biblical bone to stand on.

Uh....I don't think he has "that much control" since none of them actually donated their income tax refund!
I agree with the poster who said it sounds like he was very frustrated which I can understand if only four or five people are carrying the church. However as mama always said two wrongs don't make a right and his response to the lack of giving was crazy.
