state of emergency
Although different papers and news sources report different figures all I can say it is unbelievable...and very sad...Thousands of people are suffering. We are grouping together to see what we can do as a church first to help the christians and then reach out to others...We can only do this with your help...we are organizing getting lists of most needed supplies such as sheets, blankets, food, and basic items just to stay alive...anything you could send please send urgently to: PO Box 797 Jonesville, La 71343 and my pastor will notify me and we will urgently get supplies to the people.
These areas that have been hit are areas we know people and have christians. My boys Michael and Direly are helping us to get things to these people...roads are almost impossible, bridges washed out...
The Estadao news agency reported that the Brazilian state of Alagoas appeared to be the worst-hit area, where at least 26 people were killed. The other 12 fatalities were reported in neighboring Pernambuco state.
Estadao reported that most of the missing were from Uniao dos Palmares, a municipality in the Brazilian state of Alagoas. At least 500 people were missing there, while 100 others were reported missing in other cities and towns.
CENADI, in a statement, confirmed more than 40,000 people were homeless or displaced by the flooding. Officials in Brazil say they fear the death toll may rise after four days of flooding. The flooding has mainly affected the northeastern states of Pernambuco and Alagoas.
More than 1,000 people are missing in Alagoas with about 500 people unaccounted for in the town of Uniao dos Palmares alone, a state spokesman said.
Pernambuco Governor Eduardo Campos -- who flew over the affected areas -- described the situation as "heart-breaking." "What we have seen since Friday is more than a horror film," Campos said in an official statement.
