Help, My Computer Is A Turtle!!

My computer has become sooooo slow that I have to pause to wait for it to catch up to be when I type. I have cleaned out old programs, defraged, Run AVG spyware, and have had the computer set the virtual memory up resently because it was low. I just don't know what else to do to make this thing work. I have cable internet, but feel like I am on AOL dialup.

HALP!!!!

Re-installing the OS might help.

Otherwise you might have some spyware that is affecting it....AVG is a virus scanner...is it up to date?

If you are using virtual memory then you have too many programs running and not enough ram...no matter how high you set virtual memory it will always be slower than RAM.

If you are using WinXP, hit and hold Control and Alt then hit Del to get the windows Task manager.

There under processes you can see all the processes that are running. Also under performance it shows how much memory is available.

Another program that might help identify some problems is Hijack This. It identifies a lot of processes and installed things the control panel does not.

Then, unless you are sure you know what you are doing, post the info on a tech board to have an expert tell you what to remove.

I'd kinda like to see myself.

YOu can download it here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

Don't run the program from the archive file. Unzip it first and put it in it's own folder then run it and chose scan and log. Also sometimes it's best to do this in safe mode.

You might try downloading spybot S&D too, which is free and scan for spyware.
I have three spyware scanners and each catches different stuff.

Download, install and update it then run it

The free version of AdAware also picks up some things that these don't get.

You can get AdAware here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
