This is so horrible. I can see how it could happen, and it makes it even more terrifying. My dad recently found a kit that was developed by a group of TI engineers on their own time that has a simple alarm system based on a weight sensor in the carseat. It's surprising that safeguards like this aren't more common. It seems to happen a lot.
