I can remember as a child asking why Jesus used a ring in his story about the prodigal son. I asked - 'if wearing a ring is a sin, why did Jesus say that the father placed a ring on the hand of his son?'
The answer was that it wasn't a real ring, it was a signet ring.
Yeah, it didn't make sense to me then, either.
