You're right about this, just like you are right that Liebermann will pay the piper for his support of McCain; they let him off the hook temporarily. He's already being marginalized by the media and I'll bet he'll be forced into retirement before Obama leaves office.

Lieberman's day is coming. They aren't anxious to put him in his spot until they are certain there isn't going to be a 60 seat filibuster proof majority. It's sorta silly to let a guy trash the party's nominee during the Presidential race every 4 years and then come back into the fold and sit in leadership of a party he's been campaigning against.

The Republicans certainly wouldn't allow it and the Dem's won't allow it forever. When they can't use Joe Lieberman anymore, he'll be to the curb quicker than yesterday's newspaper.
