Our church has made a concerted effort in the last couple of years to reach outside of our doors with charity and giving.
We have multiple ongoing programs to help a needy neighborhood that is close to us, (we help with minor home repairs, touch up painting, yard work, moving people, etc.) and we have assisted the Red Cross in feeding displaced familys during CA wildfires, also our youth group does coat and blanket drives yearly.
The youth do a door to door back to school drive, providing school supplies. They just gave away over 50 turkeys for Thanksgiving to needy familys, and always when we are doing the door to door stuff, they ask if the people have any needs that they can pray with them about, but never is anything asked in return, as far as "come to my church" type of thing.
I think that these types of things are our duty as the church, Jesus made it pretty clear how he felt about feeding and clothing "the least of these".
