Admins of course can delete whatever they want to protect their interests and the interests of AFF.
It's kind of like in a court of law. You can't "unring the bell." When someone says something irresponsible or inadmissible in front of the jury then it's too late to do anything. When someone posts irresponsibly and then can cover their tracks they have an unfair advantage in the battle of ideas. They "ring the bell" and get something irresponsible out into a broad audience, and then if they are allowed to delete and hide - they are never held accountable.
I think AFF is a great board with an incredible mix of beliefs and styles. With the 120 minute (or whatever it is) edit feature it's even better. But once you've had time to mull over your thoughts and decide to let the post stand for Google to index and the world to see - you need to be accountable.

I belong to a forum that doesn't allow any editing or deleting at all from the minute the post is made. This requires the person to look it over before hitting the submit button for editing and such, but if you post it, you are responsible for it.
I have posting in haste, anger, and such like here before, but I apologize for things I said, not delete them as if they weren't said, nor did I have admins delete anything I have said. I simply copy the post I made and apologize, both in public and in PM to the person I offended with my comments.
It's no different than saying those words in real life.
