Morse and others, I did not measure how many, were mission workers prior to Azusa Street. Those missions grew out of the temperance movement. So did the "Social purity" doctrine.

How do I measure the number of social workers that became Pentecostal ? I might be able to compare the Peniel names to the mailing address of the Apostolic Faith Mission mailing address. If I ever get my hands on a early PCI ministerial directory for California, I could compare those names.

Yes, I am thinking out loud.
The social purity doctrine was strong in my part of the country in my Dad's generation. William Sowders taught that as part of overcoming to reach perfection to be in the Bride. Caused a lot of failures among young men and women during that era. It was dying out when I was a young boy.
