I believe he may have had the Holy Ghost. his testimony of his conversion and calling indicate he may indeed have had the Holy Ghost, although he did not have the theological language to put it terms we would immediately recognize.
He also taught the 'trinity doctrine' is not something we can be required to believe and in fact cannot believe, because it cannot be understood in any sense by any human. We can believe God is the Father, the Son Jesus christ is God, and the Spirit is also God, but HOW they all relate to each other is a mystery and therefore cannot be an article of faith. (According to him.)
He also taught that baptism was the 'means' used in apostolic times that in today's time has been supplanted by the 'altar call'. Although his view on baptism is deficient, it is closer to the truth than many of his contemporaries.
He also taught that one must have a definite experience of being baptised with the Holy Spirit in order to have any hope of success at preaching the gospel with authority and power.
