I think it is more than that. It is the slight up hand and trying to please the old guard and making light of their beliefs that is upsetting.
The problem is that pentecosalism is dying out and the young folks coming up are not going to be interested in trying to mesh the old with the new and things like this will keep happening. The Oneness pentecostal world is so small that very few of the young people coming out of seminaries will be able to relate with the subcultures of OP.
Why can't the pastor just come out and say, look, this is what we were and we are still sensitive to the beliefs of Oneness Pentecostals, but over time we have decided that we do not subscribe to those beliefs anymore and it that we do not want to be at odds with the rest of the christian world.
