A Monumental Problem In America:
Here's something to consider:
Statues honor individuals, but much more importantly, they honor the causes for which those individuals stood. A denial of history does not stem from a preservation of tradition, but from memorializing a cause that had, at its core, the defense of a terrible wrong. |
Re: A Monumental Problem In America:
As posted in the other thread this was posted to, this isn't a true comparison. One was sin, the other is not.
I don't know a true brother or sister who is offended by a historical statue, university name, street name or park name. The only ones offended by this are the paid astro-turf activists. There may be a few on the fringe who have been moved to becoming offended due to the media fomenting division. But actual, real human beings who are not being paid by Crowds On Demand .... very, very few are actually offended by this. |

Re: A Monumental Problem In America:
The overall issue is:
WHERE DOES IT STOP? No one on AFF who has offered support for removing the statues, wants to address this. The reason is that there is no stopping point. They want to remove the name/statue/memorial of every white male that they are offended by. They are now knocking down statues in cemetery plots for ex CSA soldiers. They vandalized a statue of a Catholic saint. |

It will blow over. What fuels their fire is all the skinheads and racists rushing to the rescue of a stupid statue. |

You need to get out more. Go downtown and start a conversation about it on the streets with some people of color. I'm sure you'll get a ear full from a number of people who think these things should be removed and put into museums. |
Re: A Monumental Problem In America:
It stops with the removal of the icons of American slavery-- at least, that is where it should stop.

On this forum, I have argued for the removal of the Confederate flag from everyday places. |
