Why did Lot offer his daughters who ...??

had not known a man ...

Genesis 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.

When he and the town folk knew they were married?

Genesis 19:14 8 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law.”

KJV ... did he LIE?

Unless you read the NIV which reads ...

14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry [a] his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place, because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

Or maybe they thought he was joking around the first time around also?

I think it's possible that Lot lied - or it's possible that it should have been translated as his future son-in-laws.

Either way, we know he got rid of those SIL's, didn't he? To his own demise....

Maybe he had four daughters - - two married and two unmarried. Doesn't say all his daughters.

I think perhaps he planted a seed in the minds of his daughters that very day ... warping their minds in regards to dad's views on sexuality ... something which would marinade in their minds and they would all rue later.

Did he leave the other two daughters behind?

15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished."

If you will offer your daughters to a crowd of crazy men what is the big deal about a lie?

So despite the offer ... do we know for sure he was offering them sexually? Or to be brutalized by this xenophobic group?

There is a lot in the context of this passage that these city dwellers were inhospitable to strangers.

Looks like a common theme in the bible, check out Judges 19:22

22As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, "Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him."
