What is the young UPC preacher waiting for?
I am just curious if those UPC prechers, pastors, and even saints are waiting for their baby boomer parents to become irrelevant or pass off the scene in order for them to promote social change within the UPC.
I was in a special service some time ago where the much older ministers crowded around the son of the very prolific prolific pastor of the church where the service is being held. The sermon was holding up the old paths and resisting change and all that. As they crowded around to pray for him you know what? To me he seemed less than enthusiastic about the whole deal...no way will he pastor, does he pastor like his father. There are a few young men that of course have no intention to change, but then there are others that I believe are just waiting for something to take place...I don't know what that is, but collectively something feels like it is going on. |

Then there rose up a generation who did not know God...

Your question is "What is he waiting for"?
My question to you would be "What do you suggest he do at this point in time"? |
Re: What is the young UPC preacher waiting for?
I was discussing this with someone about UPC teens these days. Have things changed or will they change? I think it has changed from when I was a teen, but probably not in the way that is good. I wouldn't have DREAMED of going to a movie or wearing wrong clothes behind my parent's back. There are many kids that do this now and think nothing of it. What is expected of them has caused them to basically "lie".
So, is that change or just the kids are more bold? Maybe in a couple more generations things will look different when these kids are in leadership? |

It is difficult, I remember how disappointed my mom was every time I would leave the house in carpenter or golf shorts. I can imagine the pressure a young preacher with a name feels. I would love to have an hour to talk with Brother Dan Scott from Christ Church to pick his brain about exactly this topic. My FIL knows and has worked with his father for years and years. |

Are there some things (that are tradition) that letting go of wouldn't necessarily lead to "not knowing God"? |

Carp,
There is another Generation (I am 44 and so are my contemporaries in thier 40's) who are asking this question, "Why are people forsaking the OP'S? I didn't grow up in the Church but in the world & wonder why the Church wants to be like the world???? |
