A “human rights” organization is calling on government authorities to shut down three U.S. mosques it claims are not merely religious centers, but political entities and “breeding grounds for jihad terror.” The American Freedom Defense Initiative, or AFDI, explains its demands are part of an 18-point plan to protect the nation from Islamic terror in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller said in a statement, “In accord with those calls for responsible law enforcement regarding subversive activities in U.S. mosques, we are asking that government and law enforcement officials launch immediate investigations into the Islamic Society of Boston, the Dar al-Hijrah Mosque of Fairfax County, Va., and the Noor Center of Columbus, Ohio.” “Any mosque advocating jihad or any aspects of Shariah that conflict with constitutional freedoms and protections should be closed,” AFDI insists. AFDI argues shutting down the mosques wouldn’t be a violation of the Constitution’s First Amendment protecting freedom of religion, because Islam is not merely a religion, but a “political system.” “AFDI calls for the U.S. and other non-Muslim governments to recognize officially that Islam is a political movement and so not solely religious in the strict sense of the U.S. Constitution,” the organization states on its website. “Islam in its mainstream theological formulations and its dominant form throughout its history – not ‘extremist Islam’ or ‘hijacked Islam’ or ‘Islamism,’ but Islam in the Qur’an and Sunnah as understood by Islamic jurists and theologians – can and should be regarded as an authoritarian and supremacist political system as well as a religion, and thus Muslim groups should be subject to all the scrutiny and legal requirements of political organizations, without being able to shield their political activities behind the protection of religious freedom.” AFDI, therefore, is calling for “immediate investigation into foreign mosque funding in the West and for new legislation making foreign funding of mosques in non-Muslim nations illegal,” as well as for “surveillance of mosques and regular inspections of mosques in the U.S. and other non-Muslim nations to look for pro-violence materials.” AFDI explained in a statement why it specifically called for closure of the three mosques in Massachusetts, Virginia and Ohio. The Islamic Society of Boston, AFDI claims, Was founded by Abdulrahman Alamoudi, now in prison for financing al-Qaida; Was attended by Aafia Siddiqui, now serving an 86-year-sentence for plotting a jihad attack in New York City; Was attended by Tarek Mehanna, now serving 17 years in prison for conspiring to aid al-Qaida; Was attended by Ahmad Abousamra, who has fled to Syria and is wanted by the FBI; Was attended by Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the accused Boston Marathon bombers. The Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Fairfax County, Va., AFDI asserts, Was established with funds from a Muslim Brotherhood group; Was led by Mohammed al-Hanooti, the mosque’s imam from 1995-1999, who was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; Was led by Anwar al-Awlaki, the mosque’s imam from 2001-2002, who the U.S. government says was involved in al-Qaida terrorist operations and has had extensive contact with three 9/11 hijackers, the Fort Hood jihad murderer and the Christmas underwear bomber; Included Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, a camp counselor at the mosque now in prison for plotting to assassinate President George W. Bush; Was attended by Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood jihad mass murderer. The Noor Mosque in Columbus, Ohio, AFDI asserts, Is led by Dr. Hany Saqr, previously an imam for another mosque, which at that time was the base of operations for al-Qaida, including convicted jihadists Iyman Faris, Nuradin Abdi and Christopher Paul; Has been directly linked to the Somali Muslims who have gone from the U.S. back to Somali for jihad terror training; Has had members who threatened the life of Rifqa Bary, a teenage girl who left Islam for Christianity. “These mosques are not unique,” Geller claims. “There are many others like them. But they are the tip of the spear. It is time that our officials demand that they obey American laws or be held accountable for not doing so.” AFDI asserts itself as a “human rights” organization because of its stance against the encroaching tyranny of Islam’s Shariah legal system, claiming it defends the freedom of speech from Islamic “blasphemy” laws, the freedom of conscience from the Islamic death penalty for apostasy and the the equality of rights of all people before the law – as opposed to Shariah’s “institutionalized discrimination against women and non-Muslims.” I wonder how the Government would react to a Church used for such purposes? |

There is IMO a degree of wisdom to be followed in the phrase, 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer" that applies to these mosques
The way they are makes them at least somewhat easier to monitor and possibly infiltrate. But pushing them underground will make it harder to keep tabs on them, and you know one thing that is a sure bet is they are not going to change their ways On the other hand if you want to talk about kicking any people who present a clear danger to us out of the US with no more than the pajamas they are wearing......... I am all ears |

Very informative post!
However, I see this as a very slippery slope. I would rather our government not touch these mosques in order to make sure there isn't a precedent of the government doing anything to shut down any place dedicated as a place of worship. Such a stance can definitely be taken advatange of, but I value FREEDOM more than security. Today the Muslims, tomorrow you and I? |

Just as sharia has gradually become embedded in the legal systems of many European nations over the past generation, it is beginning to be found in US court cases. An initial study by the Center for Security Policy entitled "Shariah Law and American State Courts: An Assessment of State Appellate Court Cases," examined 50 cases from 23 states that involved conflicts between sharia and American state law. The study's findings suggest that sharia has entered into state court decisions, in conflict with the Constitution and state public policy. This incursion of sharia into US court systems usually manifests itself in the form of foreign law from nations such as Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Syria and other predominantly Islamic nations. As a result, four states, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arizona and Kansas, have passed into law "American Laws for American Courts," legislation. Several more states are considering American Laws for American Courts. Unlike Oklahoma's infamous constitutional amendment, American Laws for American Courts does not ban sharia. American Laws for American Courts protects individual, fundamental constitutional rights by preventing courts from applying foreign law when the application of that foreign law in the case at hand would result in the violation of a fundamental constitutional right, such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, due process and equal protection. Among the organizations that are clouding the issue on sharia is the Saudi-backed Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). ISNA was named as an unindicted co-conspirator and revealed to be a Muslim Brotherhood affiliate in the US v. Holy Land Foundation, the largest terrorism financing prosecution in American history. ISNA was co-founded in 1981 by Sami Al-Arian, a man who is now in federal prison after having been convicted on terrorism charges as a member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. According to two reports in the San Francisco Chronicle, the other co-founder of ISNA, Mahboob Khan, twice hosted Ayman al-Zawahiri on fundraising trips here in the USA. In addition, a regional representative for ISNA, Abdurahman Alamoudi, was found to be a chief fundraiser for Al Qaeda here in the USA and was convicted on terrorism charges. Alamoudi founded the Islamic Society of Boston using ISNA's tax-exempt, non-profit status. ISNA board member Muzammil Siddiqi told the San Francisco Chronicle in June 2001 that he "supported laws in countries where homosexuality is punishable by death." Siraj Wahhaj, who served as vice president of ISNA, is on record as supporting all aspects of sharia, including its call for brutal punishments like the removal of one's hands as the penalty for theft, and death by stoning as the penalty for adultery. According to Wahhaj, such harsh measures are wholly justified by Islamic scripture as he preached in a May 1992 sermon: "I would cut off the hands of my own daughter [if she stole] because Allah stands for Justice." On another occasion, Wahhaj stated: "If Allah says 100 strikes, 100 strikes it is. If Allah says cut off their hand, you cut off their hand. If Allah says stone them to death, through the Prophet Muhammad, then you stone them to death, because it's the obedience of Allah and his messenger-nothing personal." Islamic scholar Stephen Schwartz has described ISNA as "one of the chief conduits through which the radical Saudi form of Islam passes into the United States." The Center for Security Policy’s report, Shariah Law and American State Courts: An Assessment of State Appellate Court Cases evaluates 50 Appellate Court cases from 23 states that involve conflicts between Shariah (Islamic law) and American state law.
These cases are the stories of Muslim American families, mostly Muslim women and children, who were asking American courts to preserve their rights to equal protection and due process. These families came to America for freedom from the discriminatory and cruel laws of Shariah. When our courts then apply Shariah law in the lives of these families, and deny them equal protection, they are betraying the principles on which America was founded. The study’s findings suggest that Shariah law has entered into state court decisions, in conflict with the Constitution and state public policy. Some commentators have said there are no more than one or two cases of Shariah law in U.S. state court cases; yet we found 50 significant cases just from the small sample of appellate published cases. Others have asserted with certainty that state court judges will always reject any foreign law, including Shariah law, when it conflicts with the Constitution or state public policy; yet we found 15 Trial Court cases, and 12 Appellate Court cases, where Shariah was found to be applicable in these particular cases. The facts are the facts: some judges are making decisions deferring to Shariah law even when those decisions conflict with Constitutional protections. The first page of any Qur'an makes it very clear that anyone who misuses the Qur'an to further violence is missing the point, and so it sounds ridiculous for you (or whoever) to keep pushing this "the most violent religion of the moment" yack, when neither your religion (the sicker one, that whole-heartedly endorses the largest arms dealers, your leaders, on the planet;would you like me to show you the threads on this forum?), nor Islam would claim anyone who feels that violence is ok. Meanwhile some of the prison camps, which in the meantime were filled with Protestant and even Catholic protesters as well, had turned into no-nonsense death camps. Closing a Mosque won't make those involved with that Mosque stop being radicals. In fact it will probably just enrage them and confirm their delusions about how America is against Islam
