Kurt Carr-Singing at Eastwood Pentecostal in Lake Charles

:starANNOUNCING:star

:christmasjigKurt Carr as in 'Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers' will be doing a free concert at Eastwood Pentecostal Church in Lake Charles (Pastor Murrell Ewing) on Sunday, December 9th-6pm. Doors open at 5pm.

Sis. Vonnie Ewing Lopez is a member of his group and he called her about coming to do the concert. He also told her that Oneness people have sang with them before and they always change...but she hadn't. He asked what is it that is so different? Also, he is going to be in Lake Charles with the Ewings for the entire weekend and will be reportedly attending Sunday Morning service at Eastwood. They are expecting a standing room only crowd. Wow!:santathumb

Yes I know, but I took it as changing the outward appearance. I know KC personally and know vonnie is the only female from the oneness background that has traveled with him.
I know vonnie doesn't believe the standards are a heaven or hell issue.

I wrote a note to a member of my church i was in a hurry (during church)
wow! they met me after church and told me how offended they was, how they was so disappointed, and blah blah blah i was like....whaaaaat?? (trying to keep from laughing):jolly

I know it would NEVER happen on AFF (.......right...............?) but before anybody takes the opportunity to start attacking these fine people let me assure you that there is more to the story than is being told. I spoke yesterday with them and KC is, indeed, going to be there. But, for the record, I was told yesterday that wisdom has been used in dealing with him and that has led to his being BAPTIZED in Jesus Name!

Those are some great folks who have used wisdom in their dealings with those who didn't have a grasp on truth. Amazing what truth... and balance... can accomplish.

All I know is that I talked to the man coordinating the meeting yesterday and he's the one that told me.

It is sad when people get offended over a simple mistake. I never have heard Kurt Carr live but I do like him.

Sandra, Please do not take offence to what I said. I am not sure what change that was referring to. I am just stating what was said. Anyway, I am just glad that this is happening.

Things have indeed been handled in wisdom, and I believe God will get the glory out of it! I know I will be there.

As far as I am concerned, you Sandra and Vonnie are both some of the best female soloists there are! (Other than my wife!)::santathumb

There are no better people than the Ewings... l love those folks and enjoy every time I'm invited to their great Church. Last time I preached there they practically preached me onto the floor... and I loved it!

I talk to Bishop Ewing on a regular basis and he is, without a doubt, a prince of a man.

Steadfast...I do indeed concure! None better then the Ewings. I love them so much. They have always been so good to me and my wife. Actually, Bishop is my wife's Pastor. She grew up at Eastwood!

No, I am not aware that he was baptised, I know she has been a great witness to him. One thing for sure, he wanted to come and do the concert, without charge! Says something to me about the influence of VL and the Ewings!

Yes i know that KC sees a difference from what he is use to being around. in the gospel community, ANYTHING GOES so it's not hard to tell when there is a different level of consecration

jrLA 12-08-2007 12:36 AM

I was at the church just today briefly while they were practicing (ME, VL, AL, TE). It was awesome, I can't wait for Sunday night!

Whoa you guys are star struck like that? Man! Its just Kurt Carr. Why would a church service be standing room only because he is in attendance? I dont get it. Kurt doesn't even PREACH! Oh well, thats people for you. I guess when you grow up around gospel star's like I did (i.e. Love Fellowship Tabernacle) you kinda dont get star struck.

rgcraig 12-08-2007 06:46 AM

I believe the wisdom that's been used is that no one has judge Kurt Carr to hell for being trinitarian.

How can we change people if we shun them?

There is a difference in being "star struck" and apprecating good talent that you know is going to bless you.

I would be excited also if someone like that was going to be at my church.

It is not genunine to act like there is nothing unusual going on when a very talented and successful gospel music singer is going to be at your church. Especially if you attend a UPC church.

Why begrudge them this excitement and anticipation?

Why would we bother trying to change him if his doctrine is ok?

I'm not talking about being unkind or hateful, but acknowledging a person's lost condition doesn't equate to shunning them.

Well, brother we know his doctirne is not ok if he believes in the trinity! I can assure you that ME and VL doesn't hide their 'oneness', these people are masters of influence. "Wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove..."

I trust their ability to affect him and those around them!

The Ewings are friends of mine.

I have preached there.

I definitely wasn't indicting them in any way, just responding to the post I quoted.

I guarantee that if Brother Ewing gets half a chance, he will be witnessing to KC or anybody else.

I have the highest respect for him.

Standing room only doesn't really equate to that many people--relative to what kind of crowds KC usually has at his concerts.

As for star struck???? I like a good concert just as much as the next person.

I think that in general more famous types (or infamous) are harder to witness to, whether because of their own separation from "commoners", or because of their self-perception, (or any number of other issues), so when an opportunity arises, its appreciated by everyone. ...probably worthy of a bit of excitement. In the New Testament, usually it was worthy of mention when one of the apostles witnessed to any notable member of society, or had any encounters with them.

Your post is kind of strange.

Apparently, he's hung with so many famous people in his lifetime that for others to speak about such things is meaningless to him and he fails to see excitement any longer. It's sad.

Oh, and you misspelled 'kind of'. It's supposed to be spelled 'really'.

I have skimmed this thread and just want to make some general comments:

I just don't throw names out of people that I know, but I am a close friend of Vonnie. Thad is too. Aaron, Vonnie, Thad and I have had some great times at different music conferences across this nation. One of the things that we have always talked about is Kurt. If you have been a member of this forum (and the latters) for a while, you will know that my choir sang in concert with them (KC and Singers) which Thad played for as well. We all spent 3 days with him. He is a quiet man...reserved and shy almost. He does not care what kind of crowd he draws...he gives his all.

Kurt is not the only one to see a difference in Vonnie....so does his singers. They have discussions about her (and I stress HER) standards and she is firm and unwaivering. If she was going to change...she would have done it loooong time ago. But, to her, it is a personal issue....of which she has strong convictions about. She does not present it as "my church believes this..." but that "this is what I believe for me." It was her arrival to the group that made Kurt change his dress code for the female singers in his group....no more pants...they had to wear dresses. His female singers are also the most modest of any of the other singers out there. The other thing...Kurt has sat with Vonnie and they have discussed this doctrine (Oneness) that we hold and know to be true.

God uses the right people to reach a certain group. Vonnie is down to earth. I have seen wrong be done to her, and she will not speak negatively about them. She has taught me a thing or two on how to treat those that come against you. But that also speaks to her upbringing.....Murrell and Joan Ewing are some of the finest people walking this earth. I have great respect for them.

I was invited, by Vonnie, to be in Lake Charles today and this weekend (instead, I am going to NorCal next week to be with them and Thad). She told me a little over a month ago that Kurt would be an invited guest to their Christmas Concert and that she was excited about it. Since being with Kurt, he has been in 3 UPC churches and have left those churches talkiing about "they have it." I hope that he feels the Lord like never before in the service and that he and others who come to the concert are changed for the better.

Next Saturday night, Aaron, Vonnie, Thad and I will be sitting in a restaurant and talking about what we are all doing. I am certain this topic will come up. I hope what has been said will be the result.

And yes Sandra....it is a new day.

My kids are members at Eastwood and sponsors of the event. I had an invitation to sit on the second row with them but alas, my church is having our "Country Christmas" the same evening and I would never miss my church special to attend someone else's special event. It is tough but obedience is better than sacrifice and obedience with Sacrifice tops them all.:santathumb

Thing is....she sees them as "personal" convictions to her...not anything that an organization has placed on her. She feels this is what is right for HER...AND she does not impose it on others or place her convictions on others as going to hell or heaven. Believe me, some of the girls have asked and wanted her to do this or that and she is emphatic about it. They know she has something special and they recognize her standing by her personal convictions is what makes her special and brings in an anointing. They respect it and knows she is something special.

I can respect people, whether I agree or not, when it is done this way.

Amen, psychobabble among the UPCers. Every body has personal convictions, this is code talk for I can't explain it biblically, I just do it to get along with everybody. lol

Aaron is related to me thats why I can talk like that! lol
