FlamingZword, I would like to know this also.

Thank you in advance. :)

Arnold and Conner have the same data we have. Yet the result is there is a lack of manuscripts that support your theory.

Robert Alter is writing his own translation of the Hebrew Scriptures and it is fantastic.

Writing a translation by self versus by committee is not necessarily better or worse, either way. Both have their benefits and drawbacks. Ultimately, the translation succeeds or fails on its own merits, however it is accomplished.

Alter's work will be interesting.

j B Phillips one person paraphrase of the NT is quite colorful. Meaning, I like it.

I have Ancient Israel, the Former Prophets. It's great. I am hoping to be able to afford his translation of the Torah and the Psalms as soon as possible.

One thing to keep in mind is that he doesn't approach the text as a dyed in the wool believer. He comes at it as a scholar first, which some may find distasteful or distressing.

One person translations are more colorful and are more distinctive. Goodspeed comes to mind. So does the Living Bible. The Amplified Bible is the only one person bible done by a woman.

The first English translations were translated by only one individual.

Like Tyndale. Luther also comes to mind. But his was in German. Toss Wycliffe in the mix.

Yes, don't forget Erasmus (corrected Latin/Greek parallel translation) and John Colet (English translation of Greek).
