How would you know it was a prophet from God?

The same way they knew the prophets of old were from God

Anyone have some advice for the followers of the Jim Joneses and David Koreshes yet to come? How could they know if their leader really is a prophet? Careful, though. Your advice has to be precisely crafted so that it will expose only the frauds but allow the real prophets to keep up the good work.

I told you... follow the same criteria the isrealites used to decide if a man was a prophet

By the way, How do you determine if someone is a prophet, the new testament says they still exist... so how do you decide if a man is one or not?

Re: Thou shalt murder?

So here is my argument:

It's strange that you look on the old testament prophets as if there was absolute certainty by everyone in their time that they spoke from God... There has never been and shall never be an absolute certainty in determining if a man speaks on behalf of God. So whatever was enough evidence for them that a man spoke on behalf of God should be acceptable to you that a man speaks on behalf of God. If I'm not mistaken a prophet of old had to do two things, his prophecies had to come to pass and he could not say anything contrary to their scriptures. So since you believe it is possible for God to give a command through a prophet for people to commit genocide then I ask if you would take part in genocide if all that prophets other prophecies had came to pass and he never spoke anything contrary to scripture. Personally I wouldn't care how many prophecies he had given and how many miracles he had done, I would not take part in such a thing. Would you?

Since it would be contrary to Jesus' teachings then God would never command it. So we have God changing from the Old Testament to the New Testament. In the Old Testament God would command such a thing for the greater good, in the New Testament God would not command such a thing ever. Did God's morals change because of what Jesus taught?
