A lawyer may mean more money but Houston is not in a position to wait years for a settlement. A lawyer will just drag out the process over a very long period of time. If Housto didn't need his car fixed or a new one yesterday then a lawyer might be good advice. In his situation I don't think it is.

Then you better be prepared to not have your car fixed or a new car for a very long period of time. Lawyers work very, very slow. Particularly ambulance chasers. I would have only gone the lawyer route if the person who hit you had no insurance or you feel the police did not properly put the blame on that person for what happened.

Have you already made the report with the insurance? If so do you have a rental car? If so are you still doing Uber?

Well said! Once you bring a lawyer in everything goes into slow motion. A Walmart pharmacy did their best to kill my wife a few years ago. I did extensive research on how Walmart handled negligence on their part and found out that if you retained a lawyer they would just drag things out for literally years then settle for around $10,000 of which you would be lucky to get $6-7,000.

I told my wife she could go the lawyer route or just settle upfront for $6500 and have the money now rather than years down the road (within 15 minutes of the error being discovered the Walmart "remediation team" was on the phone with my wife trying to get her to release Walmart from any claims for $1,500. My wife told them she was not interested in talking a settlement until we were sure there were no long term medical implications for her. We waited three months, spoke to doctors, then settled for $6500)
