The best place to go for lunch in Sussex is the Tea Room. It's run by a couple of Pentecostal ladies, and their food is excellent. The hours are limited to 10:00 AM - 3:00PM, four or five days per week, but it's worth the extra effort.

Special note to the brethren: Do not go to the Tea Room without your wife. It is definitely a flowery, china and lace, kind of place, and rural New Bunswick is not the place to try out a metrosexual persona.

The buzz from the Miramichi is that Tommy Tenney has been ministering to a packed out house on Wednesday and Thursday nights. He's been in Lyttleton, a town so deep in the woods that the residents have to come out toward town to jack deer. (For those who don't know who Tommy is. He's a preacher who became an author when he discovered that his dad's leftover sermons make real good books.)

Word is that he split a pulpit on Wednesday night, but didn't get much reaction from the crowd. They'd all seen so many church splits that a split pulpit didn't move them at all.

ya I had heard he was going to be in Lyttleton but I had no idea where in NB it was located .
You'd think they wouldn't try the split pulpit up here,I guess they think we are so far north that we either did not read his first book or heard the split pulpit story from the states.

Monkeyman 07-27-2007 05:24 AM

I wish I could have made it to check it out. Question to nayone who was there. How was the music? I don't mean the style because I know lots of folks don't like Praise & Worship but how was the quality? I checked out the website and it looked like they might invest in their music dept??? I think they have a dude who does spanish ministry in the states tonight or tomorrow.

The split pulpit thing was my attempt at a joke. The punch line being that NBers had seen so many church splits that a pulpit split would be small potatoes to them.

I notice that it is a PAOC church in Lyttleton.I guess Tommy feels more comfortable outside the camp,it must break the Tenny's heart.

I am glad that I am away!!

Just wondering if they really know his "roots"??? :nah

And you are without doubt right about the "splits"!!!

Does that church have a "pastor" now?

Your style of music, actually the same songs. Lots of heartfelt worship ,no doubt not with the finesse of CCC or Sunset. They have the usual keyboards, electric guitars and drums.

Now you're talkin! Why split a pulpit when splitting a church is much more exciting and certainly more dramatic! :slaphappy

Is there some evidence to suggest that Tommy presents himself, or considers himself, to be Oneness in the sense that the UPCI uses the term Oneness. Here is the only "Belief Statement" on the God Chasers web site:

Quote:

God There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The senior Tenney's position on Tommy seems to be very clear. They are his #1 ministry partners. They minister together, they write books together, and she serves on the board of his ministry.

Sounds more trinity than Oneness to me.Surprised that the Tennys would support such a ministry.

Truly Blessed 07-27-2007 11:53 PM

I was speaking with a pastor friend from NB today who attended the meeting in Lyttleton and he thought it was a very good service. He was very impressed with the church. He said Tommy Tenney spoke very well.

It's such a shame that organizations get so caught up in the notion that they are the ones who have received ultimate truth and anyone who has moved beyond what they believe has embraced false doctrine. Therefore they can't possibly have anything to write or preach that would benefit those who "have the truth".

One of the most powerful meetings I have been in on the local church level took place in Chipman. I felt led to use Tommy Tenney's video presentation and have a God Chasers Encounter one Saturday. We viewed the first video and were supposed to go for a break. I even announced the break, but we were so impacted by his message that not one of us moved. The Spirit swept through the place. The next thing I knew we were on our faces before God crying out to Him in the Spirit. My oldest son was so impacted he has never been the same since. It began a spiritual quest in him that eventually led him into ministry. We never did get that coffee break!

Destiny2 07-28-2007 06:05 AM

It is a lovely church,Iwill never forget Tommys message.Hopefully this will work.

This is so wonderful!!

I wonder how much we have missed because a Word didn't come from someone on our list of favorites, or we didn't receive it because we were too busy critiquing?!

Truly Blessed 07-28-2007 02:27 PM

The message and ministry God wants to communicate to us, apart from Jesus Christ, has always flowed through imperfect vessels. We need to realize that none of us are without faults and pay less attention to the messenger and more attention to the message God has for us. I have received inspiration and powerful mesages from God that came from the lips of sinners, but I recognized that it didn't justify nor sanctify the messenger because God chose to get my attention through something they said or something they did. We often get preoccupied with putting the person on trial instead of trying the spirit to see if it's of God or not.

Felicity and I are truly saddened by the news of Rev. George Corney Jr's sudden death following heart surgery. He is a former missionary to Pakistan and pastor of the church in Tracy, NB. I was just chatting with him at the Sunday night service of the Summer Summit when we were in NB for vacation. I think he was only in his late 40's.

Our condolences and prayers go out to his wife, children, and his church family. It will be a sad Sunday for his congregation today.

Pastor Blessed,

I join with you in being truly saddened at the loss of our brother, and join you in prayers for his family and church. It is a sad day for the Pentecostal family in New Brunswick.

It certainly is sad day!!

I have lost a good friend. My son Matthew and I were in to see him on Friday afternoon and he was doing well. The news that he passed away early this morning was a blow. My son thought a lot of him as he taught him at Northeast Christian College and also preached the graduation service for his class.

May the strength of God be with his family.

Monkeyman 07-29-2007 06:55 PM

I heard that he was 49. Sad indeed for his church and family, wonderful for him.
The funeral service is Wed. at 2:00
He loved his church and his young people. I only wish I would have told him more often how much I appreciated how he got so involved with his church kids.

I have been thinking about this since I read the news if the elder's passing...

What is the climate in N.B., as far as young men being able to take the helm when a tragedy happens or the senior elders go their reward?!

Are there any up and coming men and women willing and able to step up to the plate and do the needed work?!

Monkeyman 07-30-2007 07:15 AM

Climate?...hit and miss. Depend on where you are. There are some churches grooming youth...some choking them. Sad but true. And I am talking about many denominations.

One would hope that people called by the Name of the Lord would not choke the youth...that is tragic. They are not just the Church of tomorrow...they are the Church of today.

Not only do we need them, but they need us. How will they ever learn if we do not teach them and show them the Way?!

Monkeyman 07-30-2007 07:32 AM

We were singing, "Here I Am To Worship" yesterday morning as the service took a real deep turn into worship and I looked out and saw Felicity's mother standing with hands raised and seriously loving God and I thought to myself, that is how you teach.

Truly Blessed 07-30-2007 10:25 AM

My mother-in-law loves her church and loves to worship the Lord. I'm sure she was reaching out to the Lord for strength as she is coping with a sister who is having serious physical problems and a niece who is dying with liver cancer, and with whom she spent more than an hour counseling over the telephone before she went to church yesterday morning.
