The passage in 1 Cor. 14 was a quote from Jewish tradition that the Corinthians gave to Paul because they did not like the way he used women in Gospel work and because they did not want women prophesying, preaching, and teaching in the assembly like he promoted. Paul says, "What?" Do you think you guys with your Jewish women hating traditions are giving forth the Word of God to me or am I the guy giving out the Word to you. If anyone among you thinks he's spiritual or a prophet, let him acknowledge that what I've written are God's commandments. What had Paul written? That women can prophesy and speak with tongues and interpret according to the guidelines that he had given them.

Great point Bro. Sam! This is what was taught to me in the church where I was baptized.

I thought about anyone knew that...especially reading from the original texts anyone can see it is talking about homelife.

The point is we must understand the background of the Bible and the culture...Paul wrote letters to certain people and churches. It is just like someone in Brazil asked why does the Bible say greet one another with a holy kiss...that was the common greeting of that day...Just like the common greeting among christians of Brazil is saying The Peace of the Lord...

Our dear friend tries so hard to say women cannot preach but the writer that he claims meant that could not even be a Bible writer according to his own law...He had no wife...yet an elder must be the husband of one wife....lol....

I think we have to have common sense...while as I have said over and over, no godly lady is out there trying to kick some man off the platform however God can use her as He wills...

As I've pointed out repeatedly, Paul explicitly states that his purpose in writing was "so that you may know how to behave yourself IN THE HOUSE OF GOD, WHICH IS THE CHURCH......" Sorry Sam, the context was clearly church order, not home order.

The passage in 1 Cor. 14 was a quote from Jewish tradition that the Corinthians gave to Paul because they did not like the way he used women in Gospel work and because they did not want women prophesying, preaching, and teaching in the assembly like he promoted.

Wow! So we're free to just make things up as we go along? Where does the Bible state what you do above:_________? Or, will you appeal to extra-biblical sources? I find no textual evidence for what you say here.

Paul says, "What?" Do you think you guys with your Jewish women hating traditions are giving forth the Word of God to me or am I the guy giving out the Word to you.

Shame, shame Sam, importing your preconceived beliefs into the text that never states the same. Doesn't the Bible say something about adding to & taking away from the Scriptures? Again, you provide no textual support, only what you think it says. Problem is, it never says this.

If anyone among you thinks he's spiritual or a prophet, let him acknowledge that what I've written are God's commandments. What had Paul written?

"Let your women keep silent in the churches, for it is not permitted for them to speak......." THAT'S "what Paul had written"! And he says this is a commandment of the Lord. Honestly, I can't for the life of me understand how you cannot see this.

That women can prophesy and speak with tongues and interpret according to the guidelines that he had given them.

Yes, & none of which is a Scriptural expostion/sermon to believers.

Good grief, can ya'll not read?? "These things I write to you so that you may know how to behave yourself in the hoise of God, which is the C-H-U-R-C-H....." Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. Just ignore God-Breathed Scripture I suppose!

Typical derision that I've come to expect from you. Jesus did not have a wife either, was He disqualified from preaching also??? Plumb silly. The context of I Tim. 3 is dealing w/ Polygamy & YES, I can prove that from the text itself [but that's another thread]. It's just astounding how people on here fall for anything that says what they already want to believe. Telling, verrrrrrrrrrrrrry telling!

I think we have to have common sense...while as I have said over and over, no godly lady is out there trying to kick some man off the platform however God can use her as He wills...

Yes, & common sense is what tells us that since woman is the glory of man, she should not be instructing men! And God is the one who inspired I Tim. 2 & I Cor. 14.

Honestly, I've lost interest in this non-sense. Ya'll are not being honest w/ the Bible. Jeffrey seems to be honest, but the rest of you are just trying to advance your unbiblical agenda. Believe what you will, I'm sticking w/ the Bible. "LOL" indeed!

The Bible is an excellent foundation to stick with...

THE definitive scripture concerning women preachers:
Philippians 1:18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

The condition of the preacher DOES NOT govern the condition of the hearer. Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah, but Jonah wasn't righteous. The men of Samaritan responded to the preaching of the woman at the well and found Jesus even though the woman wasn't righteous.

The MAIN objective is to preach Jesus to this lost and dying world. Whether preached by man, woman, or child, when Jesus is preached, the world has hope, and we should rejoice that Christ is preached.

Did the woman at the well deliver a biblical sermon to believers, or simply witness about the Messiah:________?

Besides, you did not interact w/ the plain commands of I Tim. 2:11-15, or I Cor. 14:34.

Howdy, Sis. Alvear. It is good to hear from you. Your emails and newsletters are such an encouragement. Jesus is doing marvelous things. Will you be on the East Coast during this deputation?
