Apostolic Friends Forum - Can Women Pastor ?

I am NOT called to pastor...so it would be odd for me...and those that know me know it would be odd...
I do not condemn women pastors however in our family my husband is the pastor...God is the final Jugde.

I have said many times I am not even ordained and have never wanted to be...I am just a laborer in the vineyard of the Lord.

I have defended the right for women to work in the fields and never will I defend loud silly women...she is only more detestable by a whimpy man....

I think you do not quite understand my position...I have said over and over NO godly women will want to rule over her husband...

I have been a missionary for 41 years many of our pastors I won to the Lord from the depths of sin and many from devil worship....never, never do I run sit on their platforms and most know I hate to sit on a platform...my bench is the first row bench where together with the people I worship the Lord. HOWEVER if I am needed I am a soldier...ready for duty...today I am not really needed for much...other than a pat on the shoulder, a kind word ....and of course typing for them as many do not have computes and I help them get Bible studies typed out...

But...41 years ago in a little pagan village I stood under a tree with old flannelgraph and told the life changing story of Jesus alone...I was the only christian...in that area.

The BIBLE says a wise woman builds her house...when I was single I did what I had to do...when I got married 37 years ago I turned the leadership of the work over to my husband. He did not mention or ask me to do it...I did it for to me that is a Bible principle. However we have worked side by side ...I respect my husband and I am intelligent enough to know the body cannot have 2 heads...I know my place even in ministry...

Please do not consider me demeaning you in any way it just seems odd that you would not feel it proper for you to take over the service if your husband was there. Of course, keeping proper order in church is important, but with some of the comments i have seen, not only here but other places as well, there should be no difference if it was you or your husband taking the lead role. I really am not intending to insult you or anything, but it seems you have the respect for the order God implimented in the Church, with the man being the primary leader of it. C'mon Jeffrey, the eunuch was actually reading from Isaiah, the text says that Paul taught "from the Law and the PROPHETS."

Teaching separated from preaching here?

Recently a case was before the General Assembly that challenged the propriety of a woman speaking to the congregation in a worship service, and using her time to expound and apply Scripture to the lives of the people (see The Final SJC Report on the John Wood Matter - citing from a source, not my own words). The pastor of that church stated that he believed women can "preach" in the sense that they can offer a witness to the truth of the gospel in many different settings, but not in the sense that they can offer authoritative teaching from the pulpit during a worship service.

In fact, Scripture (mostly the New Testament) calls many things "preaching," even when they aren't done in a worship service or by a minister.

Don't really have the time to read yet just another explaining away of the plain language of I Tim. 2:11-15......I've most likely heard it all before. But, in due time, I'll try to look at this.

Again, you ignore Strong's, which defines the term primarily as "to foretell." Why do you do this? Is it not dishonest to only give portions of a definition [w/out a reference, by the way]? Not accussing, just thinking out loud!

The dictionary says, prophesy is "to speak under divine inspiration...to preach."

Yes, & the term "inspiration" denotes spontaneity, as opposed to a premeditation [i.e., a planned "preaching" engagement]. Besides, western dictionaries do not interact w/ the original languages & nuances of the Bible. You're just searching for sources that agree w/ you. Not to even mention the other definitions of prophecy, that you conveniently omit.

Besides, I've repeatedly said that I suppose that we could call prophecy a form of "preaching," since it is the spontaneous & lofty revealing of the hidden plans of God [see Thayer, "propheto"]. But it is N-O-T an exposition from the Scriptures.

The Old and New Testament prophets and prophetesses were preachers of God's Word.

Even if the words prophet and preacher could be separated, how could anyone prophesy to bring exhortation, comfort and edification to the church, if she were forbidden to speak in church and was to keep silent?

By the way, your reference in I Cor. 14 deals w/ the gifts of the Spirit [not sermons to the church], & will you believe all of I Cor. 14.....including vs. 34?

I don't even like to get up before a crowd...however I have been places where both men and women were devil worshippers...I think it would have been a coward of me not to tell these people about Jesus...why would I say to a witchdoctor you speak because you are a man?

I have took sides with lady preachers on this thread but at the same time I do not think ladies should be loud and flighty...I know a lot of pastors that do not believe in lady preachers..yet their wife runs the show... so there we go again...balance...

I agree w/ this.
