You do know that God ordered the death penalty for certain crimes, right? Thus, homicide is justified under certain circumstances. Or perhaps you were thinking homicide strictly means "unlawful killing" aka "murder"? That would be incorrect, as demonstrated by the term "justifiable homicide", which is distinct from "accidental homicide" and "negligent homicide" - generally classed as "manslaughter" - and "murder" which is always an UNjustifiable homicide.

Let’s see if this helps.

nd let's be clear: the Bible does NOT say jewelry of any kind in any situation is sinful. But then neither is homicide, since we want to get technical here.

The Bible doesn’t say homicide of any kind is sinful in any situation?

Are you sure about that?

I am 100% sure. Homicide is the killing of a human. God commanded that murderers, adulterers, fornicators, sodomites, those involved in bestiality, idolaters, false prophets, kidnappers/human traffickers, anyone who negligently allows their animal to kill a person, anyone who despises/curses/assaults their parents, anyone who blatantly refuses to honour and respect their parents, blasphemers, Sabbath breakers, anyone who willfully and presumptuously and boldly violated the precepts of the Law of God, enemy soldiers in battle who are not surrendering, all Canaanites, and all Amalekites to be put to death. There might be a few categories I left out.

In all these cases, God commands men to commit homicide (the killing of another human). Proper obedience to those commands cannot possibly be sin, because obeying God can never be sin or wrong. Sin is the transgression of the Law. And the Law commands the death penalty in certain cases. And the Law requires men to carry out that penalty (under strict rules and procedures, of course, as God does NOT authorize lawless vigilanteism). Therefore, not all homicide is sinful. Therefore, homicide is not sinful in "all situations at all times."

Surely, you know these things?

If I'm "way smarter than this", perhaps you should take that into consideration before thinking I'm off my rocker? I dunno, maybe?

Oh brother. I agree with this. The problem is, this is not what you said. You, in fact said quite the opposite. The truth is that homicide is sinful in SOME situations. What you said is that homicide is not sinful in ANY situation. I feel better about you now. Obviously either you misspoke or I misunderstood.

I believe you misunderstood me. Why? Because of fast typing on my part. :)

"...the Bible does NOT say jewelry of any kind in any situation is sinful. But then neither is homicide, since we want to get technical here."

The Bible does not say... what? That jewelry of any kind in any situation is sinful. Meaning: the Bible does not teach, declare, say that "ANY type of jewelry whatsoever is sinful in ANY situation/circumstance", etc.

Ah, I see where the confusion is. I should have done the following:

"...the Bible does not say "Any (and all) kind(s) of jewelry is sinful in any (and all) situation(s)." The lack of quotes is what caused the misunderstanding, I believe.

I was NOT saying "the Bible doesn't say any kind of jewelry is sinful, nor that any kind of homicide is sinful." Rather, I was saying "The Bible does not say, 'Any kind of jewelry is sinful, as well as any kind of homicide.'"

My bad.

Blame it on the ambiguity inherent in English grammar. Did he make a hamburger with cheese? Or did he make a hamburger by using cheese as some kind of tool? lol

Thou shall not murder sounds quite clear to me. :)

Oh well. At any rate we got that all cleared up. That really was a rabbit trail anyway. The main thing is that we still do not have ANY scripture that says jewelry is in any way sinful. We may have some preachers saying it. We may have saints saying it. But we don’t have scripture saying so.

And the scripture you post is no exception. It may have been a Freudian slip Esaias, but what you said is true. At least so far, we have no scripture that even remotely indicates that wearing jewelry is a sin.

What we DO have is strong evidence through multiple passages that indicate that God considers jewelry a blessing. Your reference in Hosea is another such scripture. It also is an allegory. Like the example that I quoted in Ezekiel and the two references of Paul and Peter.

Read the first two chapters of Hosea and I believe you’ll see what I’m referring to. I can’t get too deep into it right now. I will try to do so later.

Hint: Who did the adulterous woman get her silver and gold from?

Yes, which is why I said a direct statement by an apostle (two, actually) on the subject of Christian women's attire is more on point than metaphors and allegories, which by the way go both ways.
