We always have these sin threads and with just a few more we will have the ability to just shoot straight up to heaven. :largehalo
But seriously folks what about clear polish?

If you believe that fingernail polish is wrong, then to me clear is just as wrong.
If you believe that colored fingernail polish is wrong, then clear would be okay.

Wearing fingernail polish is a sin. Unless you are using it to kill chiggers. So, fingernail polish on FINGERNAILS is a sin, but if you put it on your leg to cover a chigger bite, it is not. :thumbsup

Of course you don't want to cook with spoiled beer or wine!
Can you elaborate a little more as to why polish is a sin (on your nails)

Beer and Wine would not be okay in your refrigerator because it would be the appearance of evil.

It is amazing that we point our fingers and say fingernail polish, tv, movies, etc. is a sin when there is no scripture to back it up. I totally believe in personal conviction. If you are convicted of one of these things and still partake, you may crossing that sin threshold. I would not call this things sin right off the bat unless it is a conviction of your or you allow it to be between you and God.
Some would content that it automatically is between you and God. To which I reply then clothing, shoes, hats, cars, homes, etc...it is all between you and God then. There are alot of ministers that preach everything, but fresh air is sin. God will no smite us or forget us if we partake in many things unless we put those things in the priority spot that is reserved for Him.

If you were cooking with it then chances are it would not be in the frige. Most wine is stored at room temp, and beer can be the done the same. The only reason the stores chill it is so that it is ready to drink. From what I am told the best wine to drink is at room temp, because otherwise it loses its taste integrity. So if it is in the cabnet then if anyone sees it they would probably know you are cooking with it and not drinking.

As far as the finger nail polish/toe nail polish if you were a part of a church that traditionally did not partake but it was not a sin to you, wouldn't your lack of conviction then cause other to slip etc.

An even better question would be white nail polish.
Quite a few pentecostal women get manicures and they have the nails finished with nail polish with a white pigment in it.
My wife brought this up to someone one time and asked... so white pigment is okay? Red is sin?
I guess it all boils down to the color of the pigment. (TIC Of Course)

Another good use for clear polish is the fix runs in panty hose, my wife told that. pretty cool. also you could use it like liquid bandaid. Super glue too on that one

Like many of the standards I comply with, the reason I don't use nail polish is because it requires maintenance and that is just too much effort for me.

Red fingernail polish seems rather brazen to me. When we left the UPC, I wore(clear and very light) fingernail polish for a couple of weeks and then said "Sheesh, this stuff is a pain in the neck and stinks!" and I haven't worn it since. I might sometime though.

Rhoni ,
why is this beyond you ? the french manicure is flesh tone color.
If you say red color is okay then we have to let the Goths wear black afterall we can't be biased you see my point? clear or flesh tone is natural.
If clear is wrong then vaseline on the lips should be outlawed too (too shiney)

I personally don't like French manicures. I think they look so unnatural and weird.
But I think clear and light tinted nail polish is okay. It can be pretty.
I don't wear it myself because 1) it makes my nails split and crack and 2) I don't like the "feel" of it and 3) you have to deal with the dhipping and then taking it off and putting it back on. It's a nuisance.
I think it's very feminine and I like how my nails and hands look with nail polish. Just can't wear it.

It's cream you put on your nails that dries, then you use a small buffer to buff the dried cream off - leaves the nails healthy and smooth.

I'm sure there are many other choices out there too. There was a lady there selling what TB bought me at one of those kiosks set up in the centre of the mall and she was demonstrating this kit. I can't find mine at the moment or I could describe it better. But there was this one little stone - kind of looked like a makeup sponge but it was solid and when you rub your nails with it it removes nail ridges if you have them.

Nail polish, clear or colored, is in the category of "cosmetics." Ancient Hebrew women, as evidenced in archaeological discoveries and the Talmud, wore makeup and used cosmetics. Ancient women colored their nails with henna.

This is a very old thread. I see both ILG and Emma Bontrager have posted already.
I still don't wear nail polish. It is still a pain and it still stinks. :)
When I was a teenager, growing up in the UPC, I remember seeing clear nail polish and clear with a slight pink tint. These were thought to look natural and not gaudy and you didn't think too much of it. I remember see people with pearl nail polish and thinking that was really sinfull though. Funny how our perception is at times. Just like Vaseline and Chapstick were fine because they didn't add color and if you used powder it had to be very light. I grew up with those things being accepted but any type of eye makeup not being accepted but some people did wear mascara. Blush was also worn by some but you knew to keep it natural looking. So when people say Apostolic women don't wear makeup (sorry Bro. Epley) my feathers get ruffled because I've seen pastor's wives putting it on. That was many years ago though and I couldn't tell you if the same things go on today but I have seen the French nails that have already been mentioned.

I know this topic is about nail polish but I just gotta mention that when I was in OP churches, it was during a time when the women's hairstyle was on par with those frizzies for bangs.
I used to wonder why I could not get my hair to look like that. I wanted to be so like the other women. LOL. Then it was told to me later. I was one of the few who did not singe or break their hair off in order to have those pretty curls (frizzies) adorning their faces.

Whenever I made a "poof" it felt no different than putting on eyeliner so mostly, I skipped it. Now, I realize that both "poofs" and eyeliner are ok. :)

It is funny now isn't it! But when I was a teenager growing up in one of the strictest orders of a OP church, I would never have dared to even use clear nail polish! We couldn't wear colored stocking hose, had to be brown, sleeves to the wrist, skirts to the floor, hair piled on your head after age 12, no jewelry of any kind, not even a wedding band, and the list goes on and on and on.....
I give all praise to the Lord that my husband had seen the light on many of these issues, and once we were married, it took him many years to teach me that these "standards" weren't God's standards, but man's. It took me quite a while for me to become free from the heavy burden of man's standards because I was so brainwashed.
That is why I have patience with those who come on here and post about their beliefs in the manmade ideas of holiness, because most likely they have not had a chance to "decompress" from the heavy burden that man's standards brings into one's life.
It is funny now, but if you have been in the "cult" like mentality all your life, it takes a long time to walk out of it, and become free in the liberty of Jesus Christ.
Mind you, I haven't thrown off all things decent and right. I still believe in personal holiness unto the Lord, and denying the flesh, and allowing the Spirit of Jesus to rule and reign in my life, leading me and guiding me. The Lord Jesus does want us to walk and live a set apart life. I just understand now that my standards are set by the spirit of Jesus living in me, and according to how my husband feels also, as he is my head, next to the Lord Jesus.
this is so funny.

Boy I must have been in with the in crowd. I was told early on how to burn my hair off with a curling iron so I would not be cutting it but could still have a style, how to make the poof, how to get a 'natural' looking french manicure/pedicure with acrylics so that my nails would be long and pretty and even but not 'polished'. Shoe clips, beaded clothing and even sequins were all the rage for 'church clothes'... but wear a plain wedding band... or go out of the house without hose.. NEVER!!
Oh the craziness...don't drink the koolaide :spit
